Upcoming Event :

Hardy plants for the spring garden 14th April 2011

Capture the excitement of Spring with help from nursery owner John Foley, whose illustrated talk on bulbs, perennials and shrubs will reveal how to achieve borders full of interest early in the season. The emphasis will be on choosing the right plant for the right place and on planning for long-lasting colour. Heucheras are great for spring with their masses of tiny white flowers but they also provide interesting foliage all year round. Similarly, evergreen Skimmia is a shrub that looks its best from September right through to April. Discover the merits of Pieris, dwarf conifers, Hosta, Narcissus, tulips, Erythronium and many others. The afternoon includes a tour of the propagation areas and growing beds, as well as an insight into latest developments at the nursery

After the talk there will be Full Refreshments, and best of all 15% discount off plants bought on the day!
Tickets Cost £9.95 for non-RHS Members

                    £7.95 for Rhs Members

Colourful Perennial Plants for Summer Incorporating Crocosmia

16th June

Perennials with a long flowering period can keep borders looking vibrant right through summer. ‘Then mix in some more fleeting flowers to give bursts of colour,’ suggests nursery owner John Foley. Foliage also plays a role. Draw inspiration from his illustrated talk at Sawley village hall, followed by a tour of the nursery to see many of the plants discussed.

Special mention will be made of Holden Clough’s collection of Crocosmia. Easy to grow in a sunny location, these South African perennials flower for weeks. ‘They associate well with achilleas, monardas and astilbes,’ says John. He will advise on cultivation and recommend high-performing cultivars such as flame-red C. masoniorum ‘Firebird’ and soft salmon-orange C. ‘Severn Sunrise’.
